SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH PERMANENCE
Kalikas Armour approaches sustainability through the discipline of slow fashion, fewer pieces, made with intention, constructed with care and designed to hold meaning beyond a single moment.
Responsibility is treated as an evolving practice rather than a finished claim. It requires continued attention to how materials are chosen, how garments are constructed, how long they remain in use and how the house develops.
MADE IN ENGLAND
Private commissions are designed and constructed in-house at the Medway atelier and proudly Made in England.
Working in-house gives the atelier close control over quality, construction, fit, finish and material use. It also allows decisions to be made directly and waste to be considered throughout the making process.
MATERIALS WITH INTENTION
Materials are selected according to the requirements of each garment and may include peace silks, Piñatex, cactus-based material alternatives, responsibly sourced cloth and reclaimed textiles where appropriate.
Surplus fabrics and existing materials may be reimagined through garments, details, experimental work and objects rather than being treated automatically as waste.
No material is without impact. The aim is to make informed choices while continuing to question and improve how materials are sourced, used and preserved.
LONGEVITY & CIRCULARITY
Garments are created to live beyond their original occasion.
Where appropriate, pieces may be reworked, relined, adapted or restyled, allowing them to evolve across future events, seasons and personal milestones.
Circularity also extends into projects such as Manemals, where surplus, reclaimed and alternative materials are transformed into objects that carry the language of the atelier beyond the body.
AFTERCARE & SPECIALIST CLEANING
The longevity of a garment also depends on how it is stored, cleaned, maintained and repaired between occasions.
Kalikas Armour is in discussion with GreenEarth Cleaning about recommending its eco dry-cleaning service for bespoke clients and future limited demi-couture pieces.
FUTURE LIMITED DEMI-COUTURE COLLECTION
Alongside its private-client practice, Kalikas Armour is developing a limited demi-couture collection with a Made in England production ambition.
The intention is to carry the house’s armour-inspired design language into a more accessible commercial form without losing authorship, construction discipline or responsible making.
Pieces will be developed in limited quantities, supporting considered production rather than unnecessary volume.
STUDIO EXPANSION, SKILLS & EMPLOYMENT
The future development of the limited demi-couture collection is connected to a wider ambition for the atelier.
As the house grows, planned studio expansion would create greater capacity to train and employ staff, retain specialist making skills and contribute to employment and regeneration within Medway.
The intention is to build growth around knowledge, opportunity and skilled production—not volume alone.
MEASURING & REDUCING IMPACT
Kalikas Armour has completed a carbon audit and net-zero assessments, with supporting certificates in place to help inform the next stages of development.
This work provides a measured starting point from which the house can examine energy use, materials, waste, production processes and the future expansion of the studio.
The completion of these assessments does not mean that the house is claiming to have reached net zero. They provide an evidence base and practical framework for setting priorities and reducing impact over time.
Future investment will include the exploration of newer, more energy-efficient machinery and production methods that can improve precision, reduce unnecessary waste and support responsible growth.
TRACEABILITY & DIGITAL PASSPORTS
Kalikas Armour is exploring digital product passports as part of its developing approach to transparency, aftercare and circularity.
Where introduced, digital passports could provide information about materials, construction, care, repair and future adaptation, helping clients understand and extend the life of what they own.
Technology will support the physical craft rather than replace it.

Kalikas Armour does not claim that sustainability is a destination already reached.
The commitment is to make carefully, produce deliberately, measure accurately and continue improving as the house develops.
This is demi-couture with conscience.
